Heading to College

Today I left for college. My family and I left just after 4 in the morning. It was a fun drive. Half way through the alternator in our van died so we had to stop and have it replaced, but we did safely get to our hotel near my college.

Since I finished packing and did not have anything else to think about till I get to college the stress is off and now it is just a waiting game till I get there. It feels weird since tomorrow has been something that has always felt so far in the future and now it is here. I am excited to get there to start this new chapter of my life. But at the same time it is sad not being a kid anymore. Being an adult is something that I thought would be fun but now that it is here it is a lot of responsibility and I have just begun.

I am going to be majoring in Business and Information Technology. I am excited to studying this because I have always enjoyed tinkering and messing around with computers. The business is also important because it should equip me to better help others as an IT professional. It also will be helpful if I end up starting my own business or startup in the future.

As far as the classes I am taking this semester, I am going to be taking a required introductory computer applications class. I did not want to have to take this class but there was no easy way for me to drop the prerequisite or do it another semester. Then I am taking a marketing class. Third I am taking a networking class which I am very excited because I want to get better at networking in my homelab. I am also taking Old Testament survey. Finally, I am taking a modern world history class. So overall the classes this semester are not going to be crazy hard but it is defiantly going to feel like a lot of work since it is going to be my first semester with a full college workload.

On top of those 15 credit hours I am also going to be taking private piano lessons and also participating in a choir. Additionally, I am planning on working at the IT help desk. I know this will help me get a lot of very practical IT experience and also put the things I am learning into practice. It should also help me to get a better understanding of what field in IT I want to pursue.

I know that this first semester is going to be a growing experience. Not just academically but also as a person. I am excited to start this journey tomorrow and see what college brings me.
